The network aims to strategically connect and amplify best-practice citizen science programs that contribute to the health and resilience of Queensland’s reefs.
Our Structure
The Alliance is a collaborative network supported through the following structure:
Advisory Committee
Provide advice and guidance on operational issues and priorities that will enhance the coordination of citizen science throughout the Great Barrier Reef region. Current Steering Committee members include:
- Dr Angela Dean – Social scientist, environmental communication and behaviour change (UQ's Centre of Excellence for Environmental Decision Making)
- Kirstin Kenyon – Reef Policy (Office of the Great Barrier Reef, Dept of Environment and Heritage Protection)
- Dr. Petra Lundgren – Marine Research Strategist (Great Barrier Reef Foundation)
Founding members
We have 10 founding member organisations, who have actively contributed to the development and evolution of the Alliance. We applaude their demonstrated dedication and commitment to citizen science. This network was founded and hosted by the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, as a three year partnership with support from long-term corporate partner Boeing from 2014-2017. This inititiave would not have been possible without their support. The Great Barrier Reef Foundation continue to support the role of citizen science as a critical pathway for constructively engaging the community in science and management.
Members
We're thrilled to see the Alliance network growing. Members are approved by the Steering Committee. Members have priority for workshops, activities and resources, although partner organisations may be invited to participate in some projects.
Project Partners
This initiative is hosted by Conservation Volunteers Australia, as part of the One Reef initiative.
Coordinator
A part-time Coordinator (2 days/week) helps to help organise, strategise and support Reef Citizen Science Alliance member activities.
